What this is

Boldly Pujo is a guide to Durga Pujo in seven Indian cities: a live map of the pandals, a page for each one, and what people standing at them are saying about the crowd. It is about the festival as culture: the art, the lights, the food, the walk.

It is not run by any puja committee, temple or public authority, and a pandal being listed here is not an endorsement by its committee.

Rules

• Use it to find your way, then trust your eyes. Timings, crowd and queue come from committees and from visitors. A person checks every listing, but a pandal can close early, move a gate or run late. Check on the ground before you plan a night around one line of text.
• Tell us when something is wrong. Every pandal page has "Report incorrect information". A person reads each report. The listing changes only after they have checked it.
• Photos belong to the people who took them. Photographs on a pandal's page were sent by its committee or by visitors. Do not copy them elsewhere as your own.
• No scraping and no bulk copying of the pandal list, the map data or the photographs.
• Follow the police and the volunteers on the ground. Nothing here overrides a barricade, a one-way lane or an instruction from the people managing a crowd.

The hunt is Kolkata only and has rules of its own: who may enter, what counts, how the top ten is decided. They are on the hunt's rules page.

Privacy

You can read every page here without an account, and nothing asks for your name.

What is kept in your browser

• Your city and your language, in two cookies that last one year, so the next visit opens where you left off.
• Pandals you save with the heart, in this browser's own storage. They are not sent to us, and clearing your browser clears them.

What reaches us

• That a pandal's page was opened. One is added to a counter on that pandal. Nothing about who opened it is stored with it.
• A correction, if you send one: which pandal, what is wrong, anything you type, and your name and phone number only if you choose to give them, so the person checking can call back.
• The usual web server record of a request (the address asked for, the time, the browser's description of itself and the network address it came from), kept by our hosting provider to run and protect the service.
• Visit statistics, through Google Analytics: which pages are opened, roughly from where, and a few things done on them (a spot sent, a sign-in, a share, a tap through to hoichoi), tied to a random identifier in a cookie, not to your name or phone number.

No advertising pixel or ad network script is loaded on these pages.

Your location

The map asks for your location only when you press the button to centre it on you. It is used on your phone to draw the dot and work out distances, and it is not sent to us.

Nothing that identifies you. hoichoi presents this and may be shown the visit statistics above as totals (how many people opened a page or sent a spot); it does not receive your name, number, photos or anything else from these pages.

The hunt

Taking part in Pandal Hopping means a mobile number, a board name, your photos and where they were taken. Exactly what, and why, is set out on the hunt's own page before you sign in.
